Ashwin calling Laxman! Ex-India star offers action correction ahead of World Cup

Former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan on Saturday took X by storm when he targeted off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The 57-year-old made several controversial remarks against Team India’s veteran off-spinner. In one of his tweet, the commentator shared image of Ashwin bowling in nets and claimed that the 37-year-old’s stance while bowling is not correct and offered him help.

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan was trolled heavily for his remark but the former Indian cricketer made more remarks on Ashwin’s bowling. He later claimed that Ashwin even called him to discuss latter’s bowling action. To close the matter, Sivaramakrishnan then wished good luck to Ashwin for the World Cup 2023.

Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin was included in World Cup 2023 squad at the last minute in place of injured Axar Patel. At that time, the 1985 World Championship of Cricket winner congratulated the off-spinner and suggested him to go for wickets and not to contain runs.

“Congratulations to R.Ashwin for making himself a place in the World Cup squad with sheer impressive qualities that he possesses and has displayed in the recent past. His job is to take wickets and not look to contain, if he can average a couple of wickets each game he would have done a great job. Good luck”, he wrote on X.

Pitches in India are doctored for Ashwin- Laxman Sivaramakrishnan

Ravichandran Ashwin

However, on Saturday, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan posted several controversial remarks on Ravichandran Ashwin. The most shocking comment Sivaramakrishnan made was when he claimed that Indian pitches are doctored for the Chennai-born spinner and called him a “selfish stats player”

He further reasoned that Indian batters’ failure with the bat in Tests are due to the officials who doctor pitches to help Ashwin. He further said that any fool can take wickets on doctored wickets.

Sivaramakrishnan then targeted International Cricket Council (ICC) for not having a quality spinner in their commentary panel for the World Cup 2023. He called out the cricket body and questioned how will people get to know about the intricacies of spin bowling.

“Not one genuine spinner in the commentary panel that is being played in India. How will people get educated on spin bowling. Does it mean only batsmen and some colour commentators know the game. Pathetic mix,” Sivaramakrishnan wrote on X.

Yuvraj Singh not happy with R Ashwin selection in Team India WC squad

Yuvraj Singh not happy with R Ashwin selection in Team India WC squad

It’s been two days since Ravichandran Ashwin was picked in the team as the replacement player for Axar Patel in the World Cup squad. While some found the move very very smart, other experts did not like the fact that Ashwin got into the squad without playing a considerable amount of ODIs in 2023. Yuvraj Singh also stated that Ashwin should not have been picked and for that matter, Washington Sundar should have been picked.

“With Axar not there, we have to wait and see who will bat at No. 7. I was thinking if Washington Sundar would have played in place of Axar then India would have had another left-hander. But unfortunately, he did not get picked, and so did Yuzvendra Chahal. But otherwise, I feel the combination is fine,” he said in a chat with Hindustan Times Digital.

For the uninitiated, Ashwin played the ODI series against Australia and picked up four wickets. The off-spinner showed great control and variations and was threatening to the left-handers. However, before the Australia series during the Asia Cup, Sundar was called in for cover for Axar Patel. Sundar played the final against Sri Lanka and also played the last ODI against Australia.

Also Read:

Yuvraj felt with Sundar first being preferred over Axar, he should have also replaced him in the World Cup. However, India chose to go with more experience over youth.

Yuvraj Singh: Why Yuvraj Singh feels Sundar should have replaced Axar Patel in the WC squad

Yuvraj feels Sundar has more batting potential than Ashwin. Also, like Axar, Sundar is a left-hand batter.

The former cricketer feels having a left-hand option at the top is a good asset to India as nullifies the off-spin threat.

Ashwin is more off s bowling all-rounder, while Sundar is a batting all-rounder.

Also, Sundar is pretty beneficial in the power play and has an economy rate of under six runs per over.

India with Ashwin as the replacement as he has a huge amount of experience, and also due to him being a big threat against left-handers.

AUS vs NED Live Score: Australia begin WC preparation, as they face Netherlands in warm-up game

AUS vs NED Live Score: Australia begin WC preparation, as they face Netherlands in warm-up game

Australia will kick off their World Cup preparation by playing against Netherlands in the warm-up game today in Thiruvananthapuram. Pat Cummins & Co are coming off an ODI series loss against India, while Netherlands have spent more than one month in India to prepare for the showpiece event. The Dutch qualified for the showpiece event by coming runners up.

The Scott Edwards-led side have played some good cricket in the past 12 months, managing to beat the likes of Zimbabwe, and Scotland, and also upsetting South Africa in the T20 WC last year. The Dutch have some very good players in the form of Bas de Leede, Vikarmjit Singh, and Paul van Meekeren. Skipper Edwards is also in good form and Australia certainly won’t underestimate Netherlands by any means.

AUS vs NED: Pat Cummins & Co aim to test team combination & strategies against Netherlands

Against the India series, Australia were hampered by injuries due to key players like Travis Head, Starc, and Maxwell. While the other two AUS players returned for the third ODI, Head is ruled out of the at least first half of the WC. Mitchell Marsh will open with David Warner, with Steve Smith and Labuschagne slotting in at number three and four respectively.

One problem Australia has is whom to play all-rounders. They have a plethora of options in Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, and Maxwell in the team. Bowling is fairly sorted with Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, & Zampa.

IND vs ENG LIVE Score: Ashwin, Brook under radar as Rohit’s men take on England

IND vs ENG LIVE Score: Ravichandran Ashwin, Harry Brook under radar as Rohit Sharma men take on England in ODI World Cup Warm-up Match

IND vs ENG LIVE Score: Team India has travelled quite a distance over the past four weeks thanks to the cricket caravan: from Bangalore to Colombo, Pallekele, Colombo, Mohali, Indore, and Rajkot. The most recent pit stop is Guwahati in northeastern India, where they will play the ODI World Cup 2023 warm-up match on Sunday against defending champions England.

India took a charter flight from Rajkot to arrive late on Thursday. Four players—Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, R Ashwin, and Shardul Thakur—attended an optional training session on Friday afternoon.

Unfortunately, England wasn’t that fortunate and had to fly from London to Guwahati for about 38 hours, stopping in Dubai and Mumbai along the way. They will travel across India and play in eight locations during the tournament, so the “chaos” may eventually die down, as Jonny Bairstow called it in an Instagram story.

England can take some solace from the fact that they will play both of their warm-up matches in Guwahati, as opposed to India, who will fly down south to Thiruvananthapuram on October 2 to play vs Netherlands.

IND vs ENG: Who has the edge?

The advantage England has had over India in their last two matches at ICC competitions will give Three Lions some solace. They defeated India by ten wickets in the T20 World Cup semi-final last year, with Alex Hales and Jos Buttler having a good time.

Prior to it, only England defeated India in the ODI World Cup league stage of 2019.

Ben Stokes’ incredible 182 in the series finale helped England defeat New Zealand in a quick series after falling behind 1-0 in the first game.

Both teams are permitted to use all 15 members of the roster, as is customary for warm-ups. Players recovering from injuries or trying to find their form will receive extra attention. India has performed admirably in these circumstances, having played frequently. English men will wish to cross off their own top priorities.

IND vs ENG LIVE Score: Ravichandran Ashwin, Harry Brook under radar as Rohit Sharma men take on England in ODI World Cup Warm-up Match

With a lineup that can bat till No. 10, England has no worries, in contrast to India, who are short on batting beyond No. 7. All things considered, one thing to keep an eye on as they attempt to follow in the footsteps of the West Indies and Australia by successfully defending their World Cup title is how quickly they adjust to spin-friendly conditions.

WATCH Shubman Gill arrives in Guwahati with England players ahead of WC warm-up

WATCH Shubman Gill arrives in Guwahati with England players like Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler ahead of IND vs ENG ODI World Cup warm-up match

Shubman Gill has finally joined Team India squad ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. The young opener was spotted at the Guwahati airport on Friday. The most noticeable thing was that Gill arrived in Assam along with England players.

Team India had already landed in north-eastern state of India on Thursday. Now with Shubman Gill joining in the Rohit Sharma & Co, it is expected that Rahul Dravid will play the full strength Team India vs England in the warm-up match in the ICC men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

At the airport today, Shubman Gill came out after Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Sam Curran, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and other English players. Harry Brook, Jonny Bairstow were also spotted at the airport.

Notably, Hardik Pandya was not spotted at the airport, but he is expected to join Team India later today.

WATCH the video of the same below:

As the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 approaches at home, India has been in excellent form, and the hosts won’t settle for anything less than a third CWC title in their trophy cabinet now that its main players have recovered from injuries and are prepared to compete.

In the run-up to the World Cup, India has all the checkmarks in their favor. Due to a great group of batters that expertly blend experience with swagger, they have one of the strongest batting lineups in the game.

Eyes on Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill form one of the best opening combinations in international cricket today. They are followed by a potent middle order that consists of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, all-rounders Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, as well as all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya. In addition to them, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav make up this top hitting trio.

WATCH Shubman Gill arrives in Guwahati with England players like Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler ahead of IND vs ENG ODI World Cup warm-up match

The bowling team has recently displayed unearthly feats, and they are vying for a domestic championship with a wonderful blend of all bowling techniques. Bumrah is in charge of the speed assault, which also comprises Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur.

One aspect of India’s World Cup campaign that will be intriguing to keep an eye on is how they decide to line-up — prioritize batting or support their strongest bunch of bowlers at the sacrifice of batting depth?

India will consider whether to go with further batting depth, even if it comes at a cost, given that several of their bowlers are not considered to be among the best tailenders currently available.

Unlucky Axar Patel! Internet unhappy as Ashwin replaces DC all-rounder for WC

Unlucky Axar Patel! Social Media unhappy as Ravichandran Ashwin replaces DC all-rounder for ODI World Cup 2023 in Team India

India’s 15-person team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023 has had to undergo a last-minute adjustment. Axar Patel had a left quadriceps strain during India’s Asia Cup Super Four match against Bangladesh, and he was unable to make a full recovery in time for the World Cup. The spin-bowling all-rounder also missed the Asia Cup championship game.

He has been replaced by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who had a brilliant comeback to ODI cricket in the recently finished series against Australia, picking up four wickets in two games.

Unlucky Axar Patel! Social Media unhappy as Ravichandran Ashwin replaces DC all-rounder for ODI World Cup 2023 in Team India

Axar Patel was also named conditionally to the team for the last ODI contingent, however he was unable to play when India lost that match in Rajkot by a score of 66 runs.

Many supporters responded on social media to the news that Axar Patel would not be on India’s World Cup 2023 roster owing to injury.

Here are a few of the most prevalent responses:

India have been in outstanding form coming up to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at home, and the hosts won’t accept anything less than a third CWC championship in their trophy case now that their key players have returned from injuries and are ready to go.

With numerous boxes checked, India has everything going their way leading up to the World Cup. They have one of the strongest batting lineups in the game thanks to a tasty bunch of batters that perfectly balance experience and bravado.

One of the top opening combinations in international cricket today is made up of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. They are followed by a strong middle order that includes all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, as well as Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are other members of this elite hitting lineup.

The bowling team has recently put up otherworldly performances, and they have a nice mix of every bowling style under their sleeves as they go after a domestic championship. The speed assault is being led by Bumrah and includes Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur.
