Najam Sethi has declared his withdrawal from consideration for the position of Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Sethi, who is currently the head of the PCB Management Committee, tweeted this information in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Najam Sethi stressed that the volatility and unpredictability brought on by internal fights would not be advantageous for the PCB in his tweet. He also indicated his desire to avoid becoming a point of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif.
“Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders,” Sethi stated.

Who will replace Najam Sethi?
Zaka Ashraf, who has the backing of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), will take over as chairman of the PCB, according to Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari, the Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC).
According to Mazari, Najam Sethi was nominated temporarily to oversee elections and reinstate the 2014 constitution at the request of PCB patron and PM Shehbaz Sharif.
The management committee was initially given 120 days to complete its task of restoring the 2014 constitution, which had as its goal the revival of departmental cricket. However, Sethi and his group were given a four-week extension that ends on June 20.
Mazari stressed that the management committee’s term will not be renewed. This means that Zaka Ashraf would take over as PCB chairman soon. According to sources, the senior leadership of the party wants Ashraf, who presided over the PCB during the last PPP administration, to do so once more.
