Despite having to play with his left knee extensively braced this season, MS Dhoni didn’t think twice about skipping a single Indian Premier League game. After having surgery in Mumbai earlier this month, the former India skipper, who guided Chennai Super Kings to a fifth IPL title, is expected to play again in the next season.

At the post-final presentation, Dhoni acknowledged that the ‘best time’ to retire would be after winning the title, but he has vowed to play for ‘at least’ one more season if his health permits. Even if it requires putting in ‘tough’ yards for a further nine months, this will be a ‘gift’ to his supporters. That attitude is still valid considering that Dhoni will shortly start his recovery after three weeks of post-surgery rest.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan met Dhoni in Mumbai and verified his health. Dhoni has opted not to play till January or February and would take three weeks off before beginning his recovery. There is no need to bring up this date again, according to Viswanathan. Viswanathan stated on Dhoni’s future that he is aware of his goals and the best way to achieve them. Instead of being questioned by CSK about his plans, Dhoni would speak directly with N Srinivasan.

Viswanathan also said that Dhoni never brought up his knee till the final game. “Till the final, he never complained about his knee to anybody. Though everyone knew, and you would’ve seen him struggling while running, he never complained even once. After the final, he said, ‘okay, I’ll have a surgery.’ He’s finished his surgery, he’s quite happy, he’s recovering.”
