Opting to bowl first, India had some early success as they managed to scalp three wickets before the Aussies could touch the 100-run mark. However, a possible match-winning unbeaten 251-run partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith has put India in jeopardy in WTC Final 2023.

Day 1 Summary: Opting to bowl, India started brilliantly. Mohammed Siraj struck early to dismiss Usman Khawaja. While David Warner & Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship with a 69-run stand, Shardul Thakur struck to remove the World No 1 Test batter for 26.
As Australia headed back to the pavilion for lunch at 71/2, Mohammad Shami came back post lunch to rattle the Aussies. With David Warner falling for 43, India sniffed a chance. However, it all went down the drain with the sun shining bright at the Oval.
While Steve Smith played cautiously without taking any risks, Travis Head took on Indian attack. He continued to plunder Indian attack as the pitch got easier to bat on. By Tea, Australia 170/3 and India needed to respond.
However, poor bowling by Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur never let India back in the game. Siraj and Shami tried their bit with Ravindra Jadeja also joining in but Head reached his 100 in just 106 balls. Smith brought up a patient half-century off 144 balls as the duo commanded the passage of play.
At the end of Day 1, Australia posted 327/3 with Head unbeaten on 146 and Smith not out on 95.
No Rains Expected On Day 2 or 3
According to accuweather.com, the weather on the first three days (June 7, 8 , 9) will be mostly sunny with blue skies. The temperature will be around 21 to 22 degree Celsius and just one per cent chances of precipitation.
