India Playing XI combination for Asia Cup 2023 is decided, confirms Jadeja

India Playing XI combination for Asia Cup 2023 is decided, confirms Ravindra Jadeja. Fans blasted management for experimentation in WI series.

Team India’s Ravindra Jadeja defended coach Rahul Dravid choice to rest veteran stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during 2nd ODI vs West Indies. The star all-rounder also confirmed that the India Playing XI combination for Asia Cup 2023 is pre-decided.

India Team management and coach Rahul Dravid came under scrutiny recently after India lost 2nd ODI vs West Indies. For the match, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested as India went with a rather inexperienced playing XI. Fans blasted this approach by India as they demanded consistency in starting 11 ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup 2023.

“This series, which comes before the Asia Cup and World Cup, gives us a chance to experiment and test out various lineups. We won’t be able to conduct any experiments until we travel to compete in the Asia Cup and World Cup. It’s excellent that we will have a better understanding of the balance, strengths, and weaknesses of the team, Jadeja told reporters on Monday ahead of the IND vs WI 3rd ODI.

India Playing XI decided for Asia Cup 2023

The eagerly awaited Asia Cup 2023 will start on August 30 and last till September 17. The 2023 Asia Cup will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and it will be held in four cities. Multan and Lahore in Pakistan and Kandy and Colombo in Sri Lanka are among the four venues.

Ravindra Jadeja in media interaction revealed that the management of the team is aware of the starting XI.

“The captain and team management are aware of the lineup they will use. There is absolutely no ambiguity. The experiments did not cause us to lose the game; occasionally, the environment also has an impact. One loss, in my opinion, won’t lead to any uncertainty or doubt. The combination for the Asia Cup 2023 has already been determined”, said Jadeja.

The long-awaited Asia Cup 2023 schedule was not so of good news for the India Cricket Team.

If Men in Blue make it to the final, Rohit Sharma and company will play 6 ODIs in Kandy and Colombo over the course of 15 days.

Three of those six matches could happen between India and Pakistan. It is a challenging task for India to play in hot and muggy weather in Sri Lanka given their history of long-term ailments. It causes injury concerns before the ODI World Cup 2023.

IPL eating India bilateral cricket as BCCI faces tough financial questions

Indian Premier League (IPL) is eating India bilateral cricket as BCCI faces tough financial questions ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023

The unimaginable is finally starting to enter people’s minds. The Indian Premier League (IPL), which was founded by the BCCI, is actively killing Indian bilateral cricket scene.

The amount of eyes a property can draw determines how the business is run. Given that, Indian Cricket is going through a catastrophic change where a domestic league is displacing international cricket.

After a protracted search, the BCCI recently selected Dream11 as the shirt sponsor for Team India. The fantasy XI gaming platform joined the BCCI at a time when the board sorely needed supporters because it saw a tremendous financial opportunity.

Executives in the industry as per MoneyControl don’t believe that other organizations besides Dream11 competed for this opportunity. Therefore, this Dream11 “gesture” won’t quickly be forgotten in the current Indian cricket ecosystem.

BCCI and never-ending Title sponsorship saga

Finding a home broadcaster is not the only issue the Indian cricket board is facing in the months leading up to September, when India and Australia prepare to play a series of white-ball matches before the 50-over World Cup.

The hunt for a title sponsor when the one-year agreement with Mastercard expires is also on their minds. Since the Australians visited India in March, the hunt has been ongoing, but no one has stood up.

After PayTm was replaced, Mastercard signed a deal to serve as the official title sponsor for all men’s and women’s matches played at home starting in September 2022.

Ideally, BCCI should once again be looking at recovering from the market the minimal sum of Rs 3.8 crore per game that Mastercard replaced PayTm at when it took over last year.

However, the BCCI has been compelled to lower the price to under Rs 3 crore each game in an effort to recruit sponsors due to the lack of interest thus far. But no one has yet expressed interest.

IPL is threatening Indian Cricket as a whole

But how can IPL put the bilateral space in danger? The following are answers: 1) The IPL provides significantly more competitive cricket than a bilateral series; 2) The IPL’s annual schedule doesn’t change, in contrast to the unpredictability of bilateral cricket; and 3) The IPL blends BCCI support with the greatest minds in the industry—the franchises.

Bilateral cricket also does not count toward World Cup qualification (the lone exception is the World Test championship cycle). As a result, a major event like a white-ball series between Australia and India doesn’t draw the necessary support or money.

Yes, that’s correct. Any remaining interest in bilateral cricket is being killed by the IPL, according to a top BCCI executive.

Oval Weather Report: Rain set to play spoilsport on day five of fifth Ashes Test

Oval Weather Report: Rain set to play spoilsport on day five of fifth Ashes Test

Oval Weather Report: After rain robbed off two sessions of play on day four of the fifth Ashes Test at Oval, the fifth day will be even more important for England and Australia. While the hosts need 10 wickets to level the Ashes 2023, Australia just needs a draw to win the Ashes series in England since 2001. The visitors are off to a good start as they are placed 135 for zero in the run chase of 384. But all eyes will be on rain on the fifth day.

With Ashes set for an enthralling final day’s play, both teams and fans would be hoping the rain stays clear at the Oval. The pitch has remained sportive, and England & Australia would fancy themselves of a win. It also remains to be seen if Pat Cummins & Co would adopt Bazball or play with a measured approach. However, let us see what the weather has in store for the final day of the Ashes 2023 series.

Stuart Broad gets Guard of Honour, rousing standing ovation at final game

Between 12 PM Local to 1 PM, weather channels have predicted a slight spell of showers. There may be rain interruptions on day five of the Oval Test however, there won’t be any long delays due to rain.

‘History makers’ MI New York adds to Mumbai Indians legacy with inaugural MLC 2023 title

'History makers' MI New York adds to Mumbai Indians legacy with inaugural MLC 2023 title

Nicholas Pooran showcased exceptional skills and batting prowess as he guided MI New York (MINY) to victory in the first-ever Major League Cricket tournament. Pooran’s outstanding performance saw him score an impressive unbeaten 137 runs off just 55 balls, leading his team to successfully chase down the target of 184 runs against Seattle Orcas (SOR) with four overs remaining in the match. The victory further enhanced the already remarkable legacy of trophy wins for Mumbai Indians.

In a disappointing performance for SOR, Imad Wasim and Wayne Parnell managed to take one wicket each. Seattle Orcas had initially set a target of 184 runs. Opener Quinton de Kock played a brilliant inning, scoring 87 runs off just 52 balls, which included nine fours and four sixes, helping SOR reach a total of 183/9 in 20 overs. On the other hand, MINY’s Rashid Khan and Trent Boult impressed by taking three wickets each during the match.

Pooran took over the captaincy for MI New York during the tournament due to Kieron Pollard’s injury. His century became the third-fastest by a West Indian player in T20 cricket. The only quicker centuries were achieved by Chris Gayle, who scored a hundred in just 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013, and Johnson Charles, who reached a ton in 39 balls while playing for West Indies in South Africa earlier that year.

After snubbing India series, Nicholas Pooran smashes ton in MLC final for MINY

Nicholas Pooran: Nicholas Pooran lit up Major League Cricket(MLC) by smashing an unbeaten 137 against Seattle Orcas (SOR) which helped Mumbai Indians New York (MINY) thrash SOR by seven wickets. Pooran, who snubbed the ODI series against India saved his best for the last as the southpaw completely demolished the SOR attack by scoring 137 off just 55 balls.

The MINY captain struck a mind-boggling 13 sixes and 10 fours and made a mockery of 183 run target. MINY were crowned champions of the inaugural edition of MLC due to Pooran’s brilliance. For the uninitiated, Pooran skipped the three-match ODI series against India as he had to step up as the leader of the side due to Kieron Pollard’s absence due to injury.

Nicholas Pooran: Pooran’s scintillating ton sinks Orcas, MI continue to win trophies

Coming back to match, MINY inserted SOR in. As usual, Trent Boult and Rashid Khan were right on money managing to not let SOR batters run away with the total. However, Quinton de Kock mixed caution with aggression and enabled SOR to post a competitive total of 183. The South African wicketkeeper scored 87.

The southpaw was well supported by Shubham Ranjane, who chipped in with 29 runs.

SKY vs Samson in final lap of World Cup 2023 race, IND vs WI 3rd ODI to decide

Suryakumar Yadav vs Sanju Samson in final lap of World Cup 2023 race, IND vs WI 3rd ODI to decide

The selection muddle continues for Indian Cricket Team. The IND vs WI 3rd ODI is essentially Rahul Dravid’s final shot at testing his combinations before Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee names the World Cup 2023 squad. Among all the contenders, the Suryakumar Yadav vs Sanju Samson battle is of key focus, with Rohit and Co facing some uncertainty as far as injuries are concerned.

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are Indian Cricket Team’s first-choice middle-order options for the World Cup 2023. However, as fate would have it, both are currently at the NCA, rehabilitating from their respective long-term injuries. Both batsmen recently underwent surgery and while they have resumed batting, there remains uncertainty around their return.

In their absence, the team management has put their faith in Suryakumar Yadav. One of the finest T20I players ever, Surya has failed to convert that form into the 50-over format. SKY averages a meagre 13.60 in ODIs in the last 12 months. Samson in comparison averages a 73.66 in the games played since last year.

Performances over last 12 months

However, Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma have pencilled a role for SKY in the team. The India head coach is aware of Surya’s record and has backed him to do well in the upcoming games.

“Suryakumar Yadav is a really good player, there is no doubt about it, his performance has shown that. Unfortunately, I think he would also be the first one to admit that his ODI have not been up to his own high-standards that he has set in T20s. He is also learning one-day cricket. He is a good player, and we want to give him as many opportunities as we can and then it is up to him to take those opportunities,” Dravid said after the IND vs WI 2nd ODI.

Samson for his part failed to make the most of a rare opportunity in the 2nd ODI. As has been the trend, whether he makes the Playing XI for the final ODI is anyone’s guess. However, should he play, it provides him yet another chance to showcase his mettle. It was in the Caribbean that Samson rebuilt his international career last year. 12 months later, circumstances have it that he could push for a World Cup 2023 berth.

Given the permutations and combinations, it is unlikely both Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson make the WC squad. KL Rahul is nearing a return and Ishan Kishan has all but sealed his place in the team. That leaves a chance for SKY vs Sanju shootout, a decision that could be made after the IND vs WI 3rd ODI.

Yuvraj Singh pays tribute to Stuart Broad, veteran pacer reflects 6 sixes as vital moment of career

Yuvraj Singh has paid a tribute at Stuart Broad's retirement, Broad reflects that 6 sixes in an over is vital moment of his career

Arguably Stuart Broads’s greatest adversary Yuvraj Singh paid a strong tribute to the veteran English bowler after the former announced his shocking retirement from the game. Stuart Broad announced his retirement from the game at the end of Day 3 of the 5th Ashes Test. Back in 2007, Yuvraj Singh slammed 6 sixes in an over which remains the most vital event in Broad’s career.

The former Indian cricketer took to social media to reflect his thoughts on Broad’s retirement. He wrote, “Take a bow @StuartBroad8 🙇🏻‍♂️ Congratulations on an incredible Test career 🏏👏 one of the finest and most feared red ball bowlers, and a real legend! Your journey and determination have been super inspiring. Good luck for the next leg Broady! 🙌🏻”

Broad retires from the game with huge success. He finishes his career as the second-highest wicket-taker for the Three Lions in Test cricket. Though 16 years have passed to the incident, Broad till reflects it has one of the most vital events of his career.

“Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day. What would I have been: 21, 22? [22] I learned loads. I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience knowing that I was left very short as an international performer in that moment. I’d rushed my preparation. I didn’t have any sort of pre-ball routine. I didn’t have any focus, particularly, and I started building my ‘warrior mode’ that I call it after that experience,” Broad said in the press conference.

Yuvraj Singh has paid a tribute at Stuart Broad's retirement, Broad reflects that 6 sixes in an over is vital moment of his career

“Ultimately, of course, I wish that didn’t happen. I think what helped me was it was a dead rubber, so it didn’t feel like I’d knocked us out of the World Cup or something. But I think it steeled me up to make me the competitor I am to this day and has driven me forward a huge amount,” Broad added.

“But ultimately I think it’s that bounce-back ability and that ability to be able to put poor days behind you because certainly one thing over the past whatever – 15, 16 years – you have a lot more bad days than good days in cricket so you have to be able to deal with them to make sure your good days can flourish,” Broad concluded.
