Im still young WATCH Ajinkya Rahane leave Reporter Rohit Sharma in splits

'I'm still young' WATCH Ajinkya Rahane leave Reporter Rohit Sharma in splits

India captain Rohit Sharma turned reporter on Monday as vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane fronted questions from the media ahead of the IND vs WI 1st Test. In a press conference cut short by rain, Rahane spoke about his return to the side while leaving his captain in splits with some of his responses.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Ajinkya Rahane interacted with journalists at Windsor Park two days before the 1st Test. With India entering a period of transition, Rahane’s place in the side is on shaky ground. While he was India’s best batter at the WTC Final, at 35 it remains his only Test in over 18 months. Reinstated as vice-captain however, the CSK star said that he still had a lot of cricket left in him.

“I’m still young and there’s a lot of cricket left in me. In the last one year or so, I’ve worked a lot on my fitness,” Rahane said. The vice-captain’s response drew a bout of laughter from Rohit Sharma who was closely watch his long time teammate front up these questions. Rohit in fact took the mic himself and posed a few questions to his deputy.

“The role Rohit gives me, I’ll fulfil that. Playing under Rohit is great. He gives freedom to the players, and then backs them. They’re signs of a great captain. I’m feeling good. We share a great equation. I’m used to this role [as vice-captain]. I did the job for almost five years, but I’m really happy to be back in the team. Really happy to be back as vice-captain,” Rahane said.

Later, Rohit Sharma assumed the role of Rahane’s reporter and questioned him on batting in the Caribbean and a piece of advice for the team’s younger players.

“My message for all youngsters is it is essential to have patience as a batter,” said Rahane.

“It is also important to focus on the ground and not get distracted,” he added.
