India has already secured a spot in the Asia Cup 2023 final where they will play Sri Lanka on Sunday. Bangladesh is no longer eligible. And as a result, Friday’s game at R Premadasa Stadium between these two teams (IND vs BAN) is a dead rubber.
Nevertheless, with the ODI World Cup 2023 less than a month away, both countries have the opportunity to test their bench strength and try out whatever fresh combinations they like.
This could be the last chance for players whose World Cup spots are on the line, especially since Bangladesh hasn’t yet announced their team. India, in comparison, has already announced their 15-man team, but given the hectic nature of today’s cricket schedule, they would want to make sure the backups have a break in the midst.
IND vs BAN – A Test of bench strength
India has already checked off most of the boxes. The top order of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma – have been among the runs. The team management has a happy headache thanks to Ishan Kishan’s gritty knocks in the middle.
Both KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah have demonstrated good form in addition to being physically fit. Only Shreyas Iyer’s recovery from back spasms he experienced just before the Super Fours match against Pakistan remains to be seen, along with when and how he does so.

For Bangladesh, the failure of the left-hander Mohammed Naim to finish starts might put his position in jeopardy. While Mushfiqur Rahim’s absence might provide Afif Hossain an opportunity.
Tanzid Hasan is also in the running for the opening berth, but unexpected addition Anamul Haque might possibly get a shot at it in place of Naim. One of the openers will still be Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
