Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today (September 22) announced their ODI World Cup 2023 squad. The pacer Naseem Shah has been ruled out of the Babar Azam-led side. Hasan Ali took youngster’s place in the squad.
Pakistan’s squad was unexpectedly delayed as the team management had meetings in the wake of a humiliating elimination from the Asia Cup 2023 and injuries to key bowlers during the competition.
Earlier, India and Australia announced a 15-man squad for the World Cup 2023. Notably, Australia were the first team to announce their preliminary World Cup 2023 squad.
Notably, The International Cricket Council (ICC) had set 3 deadlines to announce the final 15-member squad.
Teams were allowed to submit their preliminary squad by August 29. Notably, teams do not have to formally submit their provisional World Cup squad to the ICC until September 5. Further changes can be made up until 28 September. However, any replacements after September 28 will need approval from the ICC.
“The initial squad submission deadlines at our tournaments are 30 days before the support periods start. The support periods start one week before the tournaments,” ICC informed InsideSport.
“Changes may be made before the support period without seeking permission, but once the support period kicks in, the Event Technical Committee needs to approve replacements,” ICC added.
