Upon his return to his home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium, or Chepauk, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared a fascinating connection between Thala on the field and Thala on screen. Ahead of the IND vs AUS clash in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, while talking with bcci.tv, Ashwin recalled how his childhood dream was to play just one match at Chepauk and shared a peculiar cricket (CSK) connection between MS Dhoni and Rajinikanth.
While taking about three Tamil local terms or lingo that can be used in cricket, Ashwin picked “Semma Gajji”, “Marana Mass” and “Vera Maari”.
The off-spinner described how superstar Rajinikanth and his movies and music play a vital role in Chennai’s cricketing sphere (MS Dhoni and CSK). He said:
“Marana Mass is synchronized with Thalaivar Rajinikanth. They definitely brought it into cricket. Whatever Rajinikanth’s movies and great BGMs are, the immediate next year, with the CSK games, they will put it for MS Dhoni. Marana Mass is something out of league, something that is beyond normal.”
